North Dorchester Teacher Representing Maryland in National Award

North Dorchester High School social studies teacher Mr. M. Scott Baker has been chosen as the senior division (high school) nominee from Maryland for the National History Day Teacher of the Year award, also known as the MacGregor Teacher of the Year award.

“The nominees for the MacGregor Award have shown a dedication to teaching that goes beyond the classroom,” said National History Day Executive Director Dr. Cathy Gorn.  “I congratulate Mr. Baker on his well-deserved nomination.”

A 13-year teaching veteran, this is Mr. Baker’s third year at NDHS.  He said, “I am honored to be nominated for the Hannah E. (Liz) MacGregor Teacher of Year award and represent the state of Maryland. Present conditions have made me understand the true importance of the social interactions that students experience during the regional and state history day competitions. I would like to thank all of my former and present students who have participated in the program and the staff at the Nabb Research Center for always making time for my students.”

The national recognition, which comes with a $10,000 prize, is due to be awarded in June.
