DCPS Students Compete in Math Contest

DCPS Students Compete in Math Contest

 

Twenty-eight students from Mace’s Lane Middle School and North Dorchester Middle School took part in the American Mathematics Contest 8 (AMC8) at Salisbury University on November 12.

The event, sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America, aims to develop problem solving through a fun competition, with students competing with others throughout the U.S. and world. Top scorers receive recognition through special honors and awards and may be invited to further rounds.

The SU Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and SU Henson School of Science hosted the event, which included not only the competition but also teacher workshops, lunch, and fun math talks given by the SU faculty.

Mace’s Lane participants were Jayonna Austin, Aryan Bashir, Brooke Corkran, Madison Holland, JayWil Johnson, Trinity Murray, Adam Pennoyer, Jocelyn Rafael, Megan Ryan, and Jay’Den Smith. Those attending from North Dorchester Middle were Ande Callahan, Julia Creighton, Caden Ennis, Landon Green, Ta’Tyana Maradiaga, Kailie Todd, Dylan Ruppert, Jacey Chillog, Chayla Creighton, Chloe Carpenter, Hailey Stivers, Emma Robinson, Kevin Banda-Perez, Julieanne Tobat, Dalton Clough, Markell Quinnoes, Donald Ruths, and Jordan Regulski.
