23 AUGUST 2019

Clarification OF SY 2017-2018 PARCC Data

Some Dorchester County Public Schools’ state test results from the 2017-18 school year have been adjusted from those originally announced in August 2018. The revisions involve Dorchester County middle school scores only; elementary and high school figures are unaffected.

All of Dorchester County’s middle schools showed growth from the previous year in every test in all three grades, a higher number than originally reported. However, there were fewer cohorts exceeding the state average scores than first reported. While all middle school year groups at South Dorchester School exceeded the state average in all six tests, this was not the case at North Dorchester Middle School or Maces Lane Middle School except for 8th graders entered early for Algebra I who all exceeded the state average significantly.

“Although these results are now almost a year old, it is important to set the record straight,” said Dave Bromwell, Interim Superintendent of Dorchester County Public Schools. “We want the public to feel confident in the information provided when the testing results from the 2018-19 school year are announced. The adjustments were needed to correct an internal error made last summer.”

Results from the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) tests for the 2018-19 school year will be announced by the Maryland State Department of Education on August 27.
