C-SDHS Presents Black History Month Celebration

Art, music, history, dance, and thought were just some of the aspects of the African American experience celebrated Monday, February 24 at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School as part of Black History Month. The evening’s theme was “Free to be ME”.

The event featured keynote speaker Ms. Shavonte (Shay) Lewis-Sisco, appearances by representatives from Black Greek Letter Organizations, music from the Praisefest Chorale and C-SDHS Choir, dance from Ministry’N Motion, and art displays by C-SD students. Kortney Manokey, a sophomore at C-SD, spoke the words and thoughts of Harriet Tubman, and freshman Rip Cornish performed a speech of Frederick Douglass. Mr. Todd Nock, a Pocomoke City Councilor and on the staff of North Dorchester Middle School, provided emcee duties for the evening.

Organizers of the event were C-SD staff Mr. Darrynn Harris (science teacher), Ms. Laretha Payton (assistant principal), and Mr. Jerome Stover (principal).
